FAQ’s Kangaroo Rentals

What does the Liability Reduction reduce my liability to?

Liability Reduction provides you with great peace of mind. In the event of a collision or accident, your financial excess liability is reduced significantly.
Your amount liable will depend on the vehicle type. The options are available when you make a reservation on our webpage or at the counter.
The amount will be listed on your rental agreement.

What does liability mean?

A dollar amount that you are liable for in the event of any accidents or damage to the vehicle while on rental.

Does the Liability Reduction cover me for all accidents?

There are a few instances for which you may not be covered, including water submersion, overhead damage, major underbody damage, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol and undertaking any illegal activity whilst driving.
Our insurance company will deem what is and isn’t covered as per our policy.

I am not at fault do I still need to pay the excess liability?

Yes, the liability amount is retained until the third party accepts liability and we have received payment then your excess will be reimbursed.

Are the vehicles insured?

Yes, all our vehicles have Comprehensive Insurance with “Insuret”.
Be aware that some multi-national car rental companies do not insure their vehicles, but we do!

Can I reduce my liability to $0?

No, our insurance does not allow for us to reduce the liability on the vehicles to zero.

I am under 21 years old. Can I drive the vehicle?

Any person under the age of 21 is not covered by our insurance and cannot drive the vehicles.

I’m over 21 but I am still on P plates. Can I drive the vehicle?

 Probationary Licence holders can drive our vehicles, however a fee applies. Exceptions for employees may apply, so please call to confirm.

Can I have additional drivers?

Our rental agreement allows you to have up to two drivers per vehicle at no extra cost. Both drivers must be listed on the rental agreement to be insured.
Multiple drivers are allowed in accordance with our Terms and Conditions for business use only.

What am I responsible for as a renter?

From the time you collect your vehicle you and your nominated driver (as per your Rental Agreement), are financially responsible for any loss or damage to the vehicle. This includes damage caused outside of your control including storm and hail damage.

What are the office hours?

Avalon Airport- Open 7 days a week 9am- 6pm

Tullamarine – Open 7 days a week 7am to 7pm.

Pakenham – Open 7 days a week 8am to 5pm.

Traralgon – Open Monday to Friday 8am to 5.30pm – Open Saturdays 8am to 12pm.

Sale and Yarram – Open Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5:30pm
Take advantage of our shuttle bus if you are flying into Melbourne/Tullamarine Airport during our office hours.
After hours drop off, before hours pick up and Sunday hires are available upon request at all of our locations.

Do you deliver vehicles?

Yes we deliver free of charge
4 days hire or more – most Melbourne suburbs
28 days plus hire – anywhere in Victoria (small drop off fees may apply depending on the location)
Interstate delivery is available depending on the location and the hire duration.

Can I amend my booking?

If you require to amend your reservation, please contact our friendly staff on 1300 664 068 to discuss further.

I need to cancel my booking what do I do?

Please call 1300 664 068 as soon as possible. Unfortunately, cancellation fees may apply.

Does Kangaroo Rentals have a cancellation policy?

Yes, we have a cancellation policy. Our cancellation policy is as follows: cancellation of your booking 72 hours in advance of the beginning of the rental term, 50% of the total rental charge will apply.
Cancellation of your booking 48 hours in advance of the beginning of the rental term, 50% of the total rental charge will apply.
Cancellation of a prepaid booking – 100% of the rental charge will apply.

I want to return my vehicle early can I do so?

A vehicle can be returned early a refund will not be given for days not utilised

Am I able to do a one-way trip between your locations?

Yes, a fee may apply. Please contact our friendly staff for more information.

What time do I have to return my Kangaroo Rentals car?

The vehicle must be returned at the agreed time as per the Rental Agreement

How much will I be charged if I return the vehicle late

A 120-minute grace period applies. After this time a full additional day of vehicle rental will be charged to the renter.

Can any of the vehicles tow?

Our vehicles do not have towbars. Towing with our vehicles is not allowed

What type of fuel do the vehicles take?

Our vehicles are a combination of both petrol and diesel. Please check your vehicle before filling up. You can also ask a friendly team member when you pick up your Kangaroo rental vehicle.

Do I need to refuel the vehicle prior to returning?

Yes. Your rental car will be full at pick up and the tank needs to be full-on return of your vehicle. A surcharge will be applied if the vehicle is refuelled at the depot.

Do the vehicles have air conditioners ?

Yes, all our vehicles are air-conditioned.

Do the vehicles have seatbelts?

All vehicles are equipped with seatbelts. It is a legal requirement to wear seat belts in Australia. Drivers and passengers can be fined for failure to wear a seatbelt.

Do all the vehicles have child restraints?

All our vehicles are available with child restraints.

Will booster seats be available for hire?

Baby seats and child booster seats are available for hire and will be provided at pick up the vehicle. We are not able to fit child seats this must be done by you.
Supply is limited, so please arrange before your rental date .

Can I smoke in a hire vehicle?

All vehicles are equipped with seatbelts.
Do we need to bring back the vehicles clean?
We ask all customers to return the vehicles in the interiors in a clean condition, free of any bottles and rubbish. A cleaning fee will be applied if the car’s interior is deemed unacceptable.
If smoking has occurred in the vehicle a cleaning fee of $100 will be applied.
Vehicles do not have to be washed on the outside.

What do I do in the event of an accident or break down?

In the event of an accident or breakdown, contact the Kangaroo Rentals Assistance number 1300 664 068
All accidents should be reported to both the Kangaroo Rentals Assistance number and where practical contact the Police (000)
The driver is required to exchange details with any other parties involved in the accident including witnesses.

  • Photo of Licence

Can I drop a vehicle off at a location other than where I picked it up?

Kangaroo Rentals vehicles can be returned to any of our Kangaroo Rentals depots. Please contact a staff member to make these arrangements.
A relocation fee is usually applied based on your point of return.

What am I required to bring to the counter to rent a vehicle at Kangaroo Rentals?

All drivers need to be present at the initial sign up and hold a current Driver’s Licence.
Drivers with an overseas licence need to have a valid Driver’s Licence with details provided in English.
Along with the licence you will need to bring a credit or debit card witht the credit function for payment.
Payment is upfront and no vehicle can be rented with an outstanding balance.

What happens if I receive a parking or speeding fine?

Speeding and parking fines do happen. It is the responsibility of the renter to pay any fines incurred during your car hire. It is recommended that you pay the fine before the due date to avoid any extra penalties. Kangaroo Rentals will charge a $65 administration fee for any paperwork involved in reissuing the infringement notice to the driver’s name.

Do I need an Australian or an International Driver’s Licence?

You must have a Driver’s Licence with your details in English. If not then you will require an International Driver’s Licence.

What payment methods does Kangaroo Rentals accept?

Our payment options include:
Visa, Mastercard and Amex We do not accept: Cash, cheques, Diners Club or Eftpos cards

Can I extend my rental?

Please call 1300 664 068 to discuss a rental extension. Additional rental charges will apply. We cannot always guarantee an extension due to availability.

Can I drive my hire vehicle interstate?

Yes, renters can drive Kangaroo Rentals vehicles interstate.

How long before a Bond is released?

The Security Bond will released within 3 days working day of returning your vehicle ( Conditions apply )

Can I use my hire car as an Uber vehicle?

Kangaroo Rentals are not available for use in any riding sharing capacity. Our rental vehicles do not have insurance for this purpose.

Will I be guaranteed a make and model of vehicle?

Quality, suitable vehicles to meet your needs will be provided at all times.
Makes and models are based upon availability and cannot be guaranteed. Speak to one of our trained team members at the time of booking to discuss the options available.

Toll Roads and e-Tags requirements

All Kangaroo Rentals / Turnbull’s Hire vehicles are on an Australian Wide Toll account with Roads and Maritime Services (RMS). RMS will charge you all applicable toll road travel costs plus a daily fee of $5.50. This daily fee is only charged on days that you have travelled on a toll road.
Your toll payments are charged back to you using the credit card nominated for the bond on the rental vehicle.
Please note that you cannot use your own eTag or toll account with our vehicles.
